Essential Guitar Knowledge

You know the basics, your cowboy chords, your barre chords, maybe a few scales. So what next? Introducing triads. These simple 3 note shapes will have a transformative effect on your playing.

Triads are one of the most important building blocks of music, and one of the most important things you can learn on the guitar. They will help you understand the logic of the guitar fretboard and provide you with an unlimited source of both rhythm and lead guitar ideas.

Give your practice some direction

My aim here has been to create one of the most comprehensive triad courses available. Everything you need to know is explained in a detailed but practical way, giving you a clear learning path. So step away from the hype and hacks of YouTube and social media and focus on what really matters.

  • Essential triad theory
  • Basic triad shapes
  • Using triads in real musical situations
  • Triad inversions all over the fretboard
  • Using triads to create effective rhythm parts
  • Connecting smoothly between shapes
  • Triads in major keys
  • Triads in minor keys
  • Chord tone soloing using triads
  • Jam along to backing tracks

Unlock the Fretboard

Go beyond rote memorisation of shapes and tab numbers and really understand the way the guitar fretboard works.

Triads for Rhythm Guitar

Use triads to come up with interesting, creative guitar parts no matter what the style of music.

Triads for Soloing

Triads are hugely powerful lead guitar tool, allowing you to find exactly the right notes, for stylish and sophisticated solos.

Who is the course for?

This course is broadly aimed at late beginner and intermediate players. It's going to be helpful if you already know the basics: open position chords, barre chords, picking and strumming technique, maybe a couple of scales.

But I'm not assuming any prior knowledge of triads, everything is explained right here in a progressive, logical fashion.

There may also be some more advanced players who would benefit from this course, particularly self-taught players who are interested in developing their understanding of the fretboard and their theoretical knowledge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get permanent access to the course materials?

Yes, once you've enrolled you get instant lifetime access to all the videos and other course content.

Can I download the videos to watch offline?

For piracy and copyright reasons the videos aren't available to download (though you can download all the PDFs and backing tracks). You do have the option of using the teachable app which allows you to save videos to watch offline.

I've been playing for x number of years, will the course still be useful to me?

The course is primarily aimed at late beginners and intermediate players. However, it may be of some interest to some more advanced players who want to develop their understanding and fill in some gaps in their knowledge. If in doubt, make sure you take a careful look at the full curriculum before making a decision.

If the course isn't for me, can I get me money back?

Yes, there's a 14 day money back guarantee if you buy the course and find it's not what you were after for any reason.

Do I get any personal feedback or interaction with the instructor?

This is an online, video-based course that you can complete at your own pace. As such, there's no direct interaction with the teacher. I will however be available in the comments under each video, and will do my best to help people out and answer every question asked there.

Does the course spread triads, or advanced jazz uses of triads?

No. This course focusses on fundamentals, so whilst I may touch on a few more advanced concepts, that's not the main focus. A follow up course on more advanced uses of triads is planned and that will allow me to explore some of these things.
